Namib desert - Namibia // 23

>> dimanche, août 30, 2009

After almost 1 year in Namibia, the month of August was the time for me to think about Holidays in Namibia.

Erwan, Nolwenn and Chrystelle came to visit me and the country. We had some fantastic days, 20 days of travelling around the famous places (Namib Desert, Etosha pan) and also around the less visited (Kaokoland, Kuiseb river), INTO THE WILD.

This first post is to show you the first 5 days in the Namib-Naukluft National Park.

We start with the Sesriem campsite close to sesriem canyon and the Namib desert.

SESRIEM CANYON

DUNE 45
Way UpWay Down

DEAD VLEI
Sunset on the dead forest of deadvlei, typical pictures from Namibia.

SOSSUSVLEI
Sunrise at sossulvei, on one of the highest dune (some of them are around 300 meters high).

After 2 days in the Red sand of the Namib desert, we decided to join the coast by the Kuiseb canyon. This road was fantastic.

Short stop on the line, Tropic of Capricorn

Here is our car with the double roof tents. to set up these tents: faster than a Quechua 2 second tent. Thanks a lot to Camel Car Hire for this really nice car, a good 4 wheel drive with an incredible equipment (Roof tents, Fridge, Table, chair, Gaz etc ...)

We slept in the middle of nowhere, great view from the bed.

Kuiseb Canyon
A donkey car on the road, first meeting with the topnaar community.

The northern boundary of the Namib desert is marked by the kuiseb canyon, the red sands and the dunes are falling into the canyon, and no more dunes to the north.

The Topnaar community

And now, direction to Walvis bay and the Skeleton coast ...
